How to Keep Your Premium Cotton Towels Incredibly Soft
The Secret to Soft Towels
Nothing beats wrapping yourself in a warm, fluffy bath towel. However, after a few washes, many high-quality towels can become stiff and scratchy. Here is how to maintain their hotel-like quality at home.
1. Skip the Fabric Softener
It sounds counter-intuitive, but fabric softeners coat the fibers with a waxy layer that reduces water absorbency. Instead, add half a cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle to break down detergent residues.
2. Don't Over-Dry
Excessive heat weakens the cotton fibers and causes them to lose their natural bounce. Dry your towels on a medium setting, and remove them while they are still slightly damp to let them air-finish.
3. Shake Them Out
Simply shaking your towels before tossing them into the dryer and shaking them again upon removal helps fluff the cotton loops and keep them beautifully plush.
